Protect Scotland
From Friday 29th April, the Protect Scotland App will no longer alert you if you have been in close proximity with a COVID-19 positive person.
Why?
This follows the announcement that contact tracing and testing for the general public (asymptomatic and symptomatic) has been stopped. Test results are one of the key components to determine close contacts of people who test positive for COVID-19.
Impact on you
You will no longer be alerted if you have been in close proximity with another App user that has reported a positive COVID-19 test to the Protect Scotland App.
Therefore the App will no longer allow you to be aware of any potential infection risk that you may then pose to others, such as family members or work colleagues.
Where to find out more
Given the App can no longer provide close contact notifications, you should refer to NHS Inform for all the latest guidance and advice should you have any questions relating to COVID-19 or suspect that you have symptoms and want to know what to do.
If you have further questions about the Protect Scotland App that are not covered on this website please contact testandprotect@nhs.scot.
Keep the App on your phone and upgrade to the latest version.
The Protect Scotland App has played a pivotal role in Scotland's response to COVID-19, helping to reduce the spread of the virus.
It is recommended to keep the Protect Scotland App on your phone - it is entirely anonymous, does not collect any personal information and does not drain your battery or use your data allowance. Keeping the Protect Scotland App on your phone will make it quick and easy for you to be notified as a close contact should contact tracing be required in the future.
A new version of the App will be available for download shortly on Google Play and the App Store. This new version has tracing deactivated. If you do not update your existing app, the tracing will continue to show as 'active' but the app will not provide close contact notifications as the tracing function is effectively disabled.
